John 5:24-27..Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man.

At the beginning of the Gospel of John, John presented Jesus to us as the “Word” that was in the the beginning with God, and that He was God. He also told us that “All things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.” (John 1:1-4). In chapter 5, Jesus was quoted as saying “any one who hears His word and believes in Him (God) that sent Him has everlasting life.” The life that Jesus is talking about here is beyond the life on the planet earth, it is the one that continues for ever and ever. Those who are dead in the physical are not dead spiritually. Their spirit is somewhere, but where they are now is beyond my own spiritual reasoning, and I believe God will throw more light into this whenever He decides to. But what is important at this point is that in His statement in the verses of chapter 5 there is the part that says, the dead will hear His voice and live. This is likened to what happened at Mary and Martha’s house when Lazarus their brother was dead and they had called Jesus to come and heal him but Jesus tarried and by the time He got there Lazarus had died and was already stinking because it’s been 4 days in the grave. Jesus told Martha that her brother will rise again, to which Mary responded “I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” So the teaching of Jesus had emphasized that the dead will rise again at the last day. Therefore Martha believed this and quoted it to Jesus. The voice that will raise them to life again is the voice of Jesus. God the Father hath given the Son (Jesus) the authority to bring them out of the grave by calling them out. The dead that hears His voice will live. Who are those that will hear His voice? Those that will hear his voice are those that knew Him or those that had relationship with Him while they were in the world.

This makes sense to me now because I could recognize the voices of those that I have relation with. Those associates, colleagues, friends, church members, parents, siblings or children that when they call me on the phone, their voice is distinct and recognizable because we have had dealings with each other for a long time. When any call comes in and I do not recognize the voice, I do not respond, I simply end the call. I do not have any business with that individual. Now the people that have been going in and out with Jesus, and they have lived in perfect harmony with Him, they were His true disciples, they will recognize that voice when He calls them out at the last day, into life that continues for ever. This is the TRUE LIFE, the life that continues with Jesus in His kingdom in Heaven. That is why the Scripture says “In Him there is life, and the life is the light of men.”  John 10:2-4 reads “But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. Yet they will by no means follow a stranger; but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” From these scriptures it is clear that Jesus is the only authority to give us life. For practical demonstration, He called out Lazarus from dead to life. Lazarus was a friend and a follower of Jesus before the sickness that terminated his life happened,  So when Martha replied to him, Jesus told Martha “I am the resurrection and the life, he that believes in me though he were dead yet shall he live. And whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”Martha said “Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, which should come to the world. From verses 41-44 we read,  “And Jesus lifted his eyes, and said, Father, I thank you that you have heard Me, And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me. Now when He had said these things, He cried out with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth” And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with grave clothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth, Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go”   Many people that witnessed this believed and became a follower of Jesus.

Brethren with the teachings of Jesus, and the very many miracles that he performed are evidence that Jesus is the Son of God, the Messiah that came to the world so that we can be set free from every form of bondage (to sin, to sickness, to affliction, to barrenness, etc), and also came so that we can live a life of abundance (enjoying his goodness and mercies) in the land of the living and at the end of our sojourn on the earth, we can hear His voice and be raised up to life eternal. Revelation 3:19-21 says “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten, be zealous therefore and repent . Behold I stand at the door and knock, if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. To him that overcomes will I grant to sit with Me in My throne, even as I also overcame and am set down with My Father in His throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches”.

Let us change our ways if we are not walking straight with Him, do His will so that we can hear His voice at the Resurrection of the dead and live. If we are not sure if we are saved, please we need to read the gospel of John very well and be convinced that you need to be born again before you can be assured of eternal life because  all of us have sinned and come short of the glory of God, and it is only giving our life to Christ to lead as his sheep that we can be assured of heaven. So brothers and sisters reexamine your life today and make a decision that will affect your eternity with Jesus. God bless you all.

Prayer.. Lord help me to focus on you, and do your bidding and not allow the things of this world to take my eyes off You in Jesus Name, Amen.
