John 1:4-5…In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

In the Psalm of David that we read yesterday, Psalm 27:1, David was quoted as saying “The LORD is my Light and my Salvation, whom shall I fear?” Today we want to focus on the Scripture of John the apostle that tells us that Jesus Christ is the Light of the world. He says “In Him (Jesus Christ) was life, and the life was the light of men, and that the Light shines even in darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not (or can never extinguish it). In order to understand this, let us examine darkness. During the night when the natural light (sun) has set, nothing is visible. If you walk in darkness, you will stumble and fall. To put darkness in the right perspective, those who steal in those days do it in the night, when the owner of the house is asleep. Many crimes are committed in the night. because of the fear of being discovered. Therefore darkness is associated with evil or anything that is contrary to law of God.

Spiritual darkness is therefore dealing with a life that is outside God’s ordinances. A life that is totally disobedient to God’s principles, laws and statutes is a life of darkness.  The Bible says those that are living such a life have their eyes darkened, and they are devoid of understanding. They hear the word of God, but they cannot comprehend what they hear. They have eyes but cannot see. The devil who is the prince of this world have his hand upon them and continues to steer their ship toward destruction. Therefore the life they live is meaningless. The Light of God is the one that brings Life. Jesus Christ is the Light of the World that brings understanding of things of God to whosoever accepts Him. If a child has understanding that when he puts his hand in fire, it will burn him, such a child will not play with fire or put his hand in the fire, because he knows that the pain that will follow is not palatable. The Light of God helps you to be empowered to run from sin and live a righteous life, a life that fears God and eschews evil. You cannot be in the light and also be in the darkness at the same time. The seed that brings more and more light is planted in you the moment you surrender yourself to Master Jesus to take over the driving or the piloting of your life. He allows you to grow in the light and keep moving towards Him until you are able to conform yourself to His image completely. Then sin becomes abomination to you as it is to Him, and your light starts shinning brighter and brighter and the darkness or devil does not have power over it. This is what is called Life and it is only found in Jesus, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He says “No one comes to the father except through Him”. (John 14:6).

Let us look at the Scriptures to see an example of what understanding can do in one’s life. Daniel 9:1-4 reads ” In the first year of Darius, the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, which was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans. In the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolation of Jerusalem. And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting and sackcloth, and ashes. And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession….” Daniel read the book written by Jeremiah the prophet and had the understanding that the children of Israel will be in exile (captivity) in a foreign land for 70 years to accomplish the purpose for which they were sent there, and that was as a result of their sin. Because of this understanding, Daniel went into fasting and prayer for his nation (nation of Israel) for God to remember his promises and to forgive all their sins and bring them back to their land. His prayers brought an angel to him to explain what would happen in the course of restoration of Israel and even the vision of Messiah was revealed to him. Though I would not go into details of what was revealed to him, but the point I am making here is that the Light came into him which made him to understand the word of God he had read  and then directed him to stand in the gap to pray to God for the land of Israel. The light brings illumination, and guidance, so that you will know what to do and how to do it, and you will not stumble or fall. Daniel was used mightily because he allowed the light of God to be resident in him. and the LORD showed him about what would happen at the end of the world, but he was told this vision was not for his time, so it was sealed for him, and was told he would sleep in peace. Later John, an apostle of Jesus, was the one that got full revelation (vision opened for him) of what was sealed in the book of Daniel about the happenings at the end of the world.

Brethren, it is good to be in the light, because apart from the fact that you will live a fulfilled life, you will also understand so many hidden things about the kingdom of God. Devil has already been judged and sentenced, it is a matter of time for everything to come to an end, and all our eyes would see what the Scripture says. That is why Peter says in the Scriptures that Devil is a roaring lion and is seeking whom to devour because he knows he has but a short time. He wants to take with him as many souls as possible to hell fire. We should not allow him to make us one of his candidates. Hell is a place of torment, torture, weeping and gnashing of teeth, so nobody would want to spend eternity in such a place. Proverbs 4:8 says “wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom, and in your getting, get understanding. Make a commitment today to REPENT of YOUR SINS, and invite the Light (Jesus Christ) into your life, so that he can give you understanding of the things of his kingdom, so that you will not miss it. The Lord will keep us to the end and count us worthy to be with him at the end, in Jesus Name, Amen.

Prayer..Lord help me to continue to dwell in your light so that I can make it to your kingdom and be a partaker of the promise you made in John 14 which is to be in my own mansion that you have gone to prepare for us .Thank you Jesus.
