Psalm 33:11-12..The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.
Glory be to God for His mercy over the whole world. Today I give thanks to the Almighty God for His mercies over Nigeria, that got independence since October 1, 1960. 58 years of becoming a nation and with all that we have gone through, we have every reason to be grateful to God because the LORD had not visited us according to our sins. The LORD was speaking to the children of Israel through Isaiah, and reading through chapter 1, it was like it was written for Nigeria. Isaiah 1:4-6 says ” Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evil-doers, children that are corrupters, they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward. Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more, the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. From the sole of the foot even unto the head, there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises and putrifying sores, they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.” Looking at the situation in our country, we can relate to the writings of Isaiah and even say that much more is going on in Nigeria. If God were to visit us according to all our sins, it would have been very devastating. The unfortunate thing in the country is that many people that called themselves believers in Christ are not following Christ as they should. So many churches in this country are just hiding under the name of Jesus Christ and all they do is to manipulate their followers into believing that they are servants of God.
But God is a merciful God and He has plan for the country. With all the atrocities that have been perpetuated in the country, one would wonder why Nigeria is still in the plan of God. It is the Lord’s mercies that have kept us. Though we don’t deserve it, but God decided to shower His abundant mercy upon us as promised in the Scriptures that “I will have mercy upon whom I will have mercy and compassion upon whom I will have compassion.” (Romans 9:18). Nigeria is in the limelight all over the world, and recently one of the on-line telecasts highlighted some Nigerians that have so much impart in the world’s economy. These renowned business tycoons used their God-given gifts to improve the world and are known as genuine and hardworking individuals in different facets of life. In the religious circle, there are many too that God had used and is still using immensely and their names are known all over the world.
Therefore today we are thanking God for being there for us and is still giving us a chance to return to Him, because He is the only ONE that knows what He wants to do with this country and in this country. One thing is certain, He is a loving God and he does not want the sinners to perish, but come to repentance. He does not want Muslims to exterminate the Christians, neither is He happy with the killings that have been going on. If God, the Creator can give us a FREE WILL to choose what we want, why should a fellow Nigerian want to force another one to turn to their faith? Jesus did not force any one to come to Him, He convinced those that came to Him with His LOVE. We are supposed to LOVE each other, either you are a Muslim or a Christian. The country should not be forced to be an Islamic state. Since this is not the LORD’s will, the LORD will not allow this to happen. It is possible to coexist in LOVE. Let everyone hold strongly what he believes in, and let God prove Himself the way He wants to. He knows what is going on in Nigeria, and even all over the world, He has plan for the country and all nations as a whole. Though Nigeria might be in this despicable situation today, it is not only Nigeria but the whole world. We all need God’s divine intervention to help us restore PEACE and HARMONY in the world.
The message from a woman of God that got to us charged us to praise God throughout today and I pray as we lift up our voices to the LORD, He will hear us and accept our praises and turn our situation around for good. I ask for the POWER of God to be poured upon us today as we ask for forgiveness of our sins, and receive the GRACE to continue to do good, and love each other in Jesus Name, Amen.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance. The Lord makes his counsel (plan) to stand for ever over Nigeria. Happy Independence Day. Blessed are you all that make God your God.Amen.
