Luke 24:49…And behold, I send the promise of my Father  upon you. but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

In the book of Mark, chapter 16 verse 15, Mark recorded that Jesus appeared to them and instructed them to “go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” This instruction was supposed to be carried out after they had been endued with power from the Father as recorded by Luke in the above Scripture. He asked them to wait in Jerusalem for this promise. This is to let everyone of us know the importance of doing God’s work ONLY with God’s POWER. The apostles understood this and they tarried in the upper room where they gathered until the power from on High came upon them. The Scripture had it written that Jesus was filled with the Holy Ghost after he was baptized in the river Jordan by John the Baptist, the forerunner. Acts 10:38 had this to say “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the  Holy Ghost and with Power, who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil, for God was with him.”

Seeing the behavior of the apostles before the power came upon them and after they had received the power, there is marked difference in them that made the word of God to be much clearer to us today. While Jesus was performing all the miracles, signs and wonders, Judas Ischariot was still manifesting the lusts of the flesh and of the eyes. He was feeding his flesh with what it desires, and this led him to betraying Jesus with 30 pieces of silver. Unfortunately he did not live to receive the power that was promised because he hanged himself immediately Jesus was arrested. Peter that appeared to be very strong among all the apostles, denied ever knowing Jesus when he was confronted by a girl and some other people while waiting for the outcome of the arrest of his master. He denied him three times before the cock crew as Jesus had told him before his arrest. He wept when he remembered that Jesus warned him that this would happen to him. Now waiting for this promise as Jesus foretold, Acts 2:1-4 says” And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”  Each of them that waited for this power did not remain the same again. They all started the work of God with boldness and signs and wonders were wrought through them as it happened during Jesus’ ministry. They preached the undiluted Word of God with no fear, and many people that believed were added to them. The church started and multiplied in number, and of course persecution started. Saul, who later became Paul, was among the persecutors, but Jesus met with him on the way to Damascus (Acts 9), and became a very prominent preacher of the gospel. Through him too, many people got converted, epistles were written that were still applicable to us today, signs and wonders were wrought through him.

Today, we need to seek God’s power like never before  The church that started through the apostles had lost its steam, the fire that came down upon the apostles during the Pentecost had lost its heat. What we are witnessing in this century is a church that is polluted with man’s doctrine. Different churches with different motives and agenda, and many miracles that are seen are not genuine. The Word of God is not preached with the power it contains. But all is not lost, there is hope if we can seek the LORD of Heaven’s Armies again.  We need fresh FIRE that can destroy every worldliness, and revive our hearts back to Him. All the churches need the undiluted word of God that can change us for the better. We need to have UNITY of Purpose, and that is to allow the HOLY GHOST to direct His Church. If we give Him His rightful place, He will gather us together again and breathe into us, the breath of life and His Word which is like fire will start to perform signs and wonders again.  As the second coming of our Lord Jesus is drawing nearer and nearer every day, we need Him to pour His Spirit upon us afresh which can keep us focused on Him before his arrival. Isaiah 44:3-4 says, “For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and flood upon the dry ground. I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring. And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses,”

Are you thirsty? Do you desire to see a change both in your life and in the life of people around you? Do you want to see better things happening in the world we live in? If yes, then we need to ask for the Holy Ghost Power afresh so that devil can be silenced and destroyed completely. Let us seek to be filled with this power, so that we can experience transformation in our lives and the lives of people around us. The apostles waited for this power, and when it came on them, their lives were not the same again. They were blessed both spiritually and physically and their lives blessed many people around them. Those that were sick received healing, the dead were raised to life, and lives were generally transformed by the power of the Holy Ghost. Please let us seek for this power and it shall be well with us all. Amen.

Prayer…LORD come down once again in your might and let your power be seen among the believers so that the unbelievers can be drawn to you, and lives be changed in Jesus name, Amen.
