Luke 4:18, 19, 21…The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised. To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

We can not overemphasize what our Lord Jesus came to do in our lives. The book of Isaiah had this prophecy recorded in chapter 61:1 so many years before the actual manifestation of the word read by Jesus in the temple. The assignment of Jesus was clearly explained in this scripture. He came to preach to us about heaven and what it looks like and how to get there. He used so many parables to make us understand that He is the way to get there. He confirmed this by performing many miracles that no one had ever done. He went about healing many diseases, cast out demons and raised the dead, and sent his disciples to do the same. So many that were in bondage were delivered, and truly he did come to set the captives free. Let us show a few examples as it is recorded in the scriptures.

John 11 recorded a situation where the man had died for 4 days and was already stinking, and Jesus told the sisters, Mary and Martha that if they would believe that their brother would live again. Martha thought he was talking about being raised up at the last day, but Jesus said, “I am the Resurrection and the Life, he that believes in him, though he were dead, yet shall he live, and whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die, Believe thou this?” Believing this, she led Jesus to where the dead man (Lazarus) laid, and Jesus moved with compassion wept  in this story and groaned in himself, and thank the Father that he has heard him. Then he cried with a loud voice , “Lazarus, come forth, and he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave clothes; and his face was bound with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.” In John 5 , the story of a  man at the pool of Bethesda who had been waiting for the troubling of the water by an angel for 38 years was recorded and how Jesus healed him by telling him that his sins were forgiven him, and that he should take his bed and go home. The man was healed instantly. There were many other miracles that he performed for them to know that he was sent for this purpose. Unfortunately some who are supposed to be knowledgeable about the word of God that were written by the prophets were the very ones that did not believe him and they set him up to be crucified.

In our world today, miracles are still been wrought through his name. In the year 1930 in Nigeria, a pregnant woman that was dead was dumped at a revival ground in a city (Ibadan) where a Revivalist was holding his crusade and God told the man of God to go and pray for the corpse, and we were told the woman came to life and the baby was born alive. This was the beginning of a new movement in this city and many people that believed formed what is known today as Christ Apostolic Church. The preaching of the gospel spread through this episode and my husband ‘s family became a prominent member of this church. Many other signs and wonders were witnessed through the use of the name of Jesus without going to the hospital or using any medication. It was like the time of the apostles when the work of Jesus continued through them. Many captives were set free, and many that were in bondage were delivered, many women had their babies born in the church’s missionary house where prayers in the name of Jesus were the only medication they used.  Myself and three of my children were recipient of the mighty healing of Jesus and we can testify to day that Jesus is indeed “the One that came to open prison doors, and set the captives free, and also to heal the brokenhearted.”

In many churches today, the power of Jesus have not been pronounced as it was in the formative years of different churches. Though we still hear or experience a couple of miracles here and there, but people generally have shifted from the laid down doctrine of the apostles. People have put their focus on other things that do not glorify God. Therefore, many people are suffering from different diseases that  even doctors do not have solutions to. Many people are in bondage and in prison and devils are tormenting many lives today, and Jesus is still on the throne…….to be continued tomorrow.

Prayer…LORD come and send down a fresh fire of your anointing on the churches so that your power can return anew, in Jesus Name .Amen
