1 Corinthians 1:18…For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
From the time Adam and Eve sinned in the garden of Eden, and they were sent out from the garden, man has become so sinful that God had to wipe out humanity race with the flood and began again with Noah and his family. But then he promised not to destroy the world again with the flood, and rainbow was the seal of this promise. Nevertheless things did not get better but worsened so to say, but God being a merciful God had ordained some measures to keep man alive as long as they can come under the umbrella of a new covenant which involves passing their sins on a sacrificial animal as a temporary solution to their rebellion against Him. These animals must be spotless, and they virtually represented the sinners and their punishment was passed unto them.
John the Baptist, the forerunner of our Lord Jesus Christ, revealed to the people that Jesus Christ was the Lamb that would take away the sins of the world. John 1:29 reads “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! This is he of whom I said, “After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.” Therefore Jesus came to stop the sacrifice of animals for the penalty of sin and in exchange He gave His life for the whole world for the penalty of their sins. Since the wages of sin is death, only those that believe in the work of the cross where Jesus died to take away our sins, can receive forgiveness for their sins and then receive the gift of living with God in heaven which is called eternal life. Now therefore the cross of Jesus Christ is the center of Christian faith. It is His death on the cross of Calvary that brought salvation to us and His resurrection from the dead that assures us that we are justified and we have now been brought from death to life (justification). Those that have given their life to Christ have experienced the power of God through Jesus Christ. The blood of Jesus makes the vilest sinner clean. There is power in the blood of Jesus and it is not only forgiveness of our sins that we receive, we also experience dominion over our sinful nature, so that we can turn away from sin and live a righteous life. We also receive healing from various wounds we have incurred when we were without Christ. The healing could be physical healing from sickness, or deliverance from bondage and deliverance from yoke of the enemy. The benefits of appropriating the cross of Christ to all our endeavors have been experienced by many believers including me. Space and time will not permit me to start writing different benefits that I have personally enjoyed, but my advise to the unbelievers is to “TRY ” the cross of Jesus by running to Him and pleading for mercy, and you will experience the outpouring of His love on you. It is the love that Jesus had for mankind that took Him to the cross. Paul further encourages us in Hebrew 12 :1-2 that reads “Therefore we (believers) also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and the finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Brothers and sisters, do not let the preaching of the cross be foolishness to you, because your sins will keep you out of that glorious place. There is no other way to cleanse yourself. God had made provision from the foundation of the world that our sins can only be taken away by the shedding of the blood. The Bible says, without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins, therefore my appeal to you is that you will give your life to Christ by confessing your sins to Him, and then asking for His forgiveness, and then ask Him to abide in you by filling you with His Spirit which will empower you to understand the scriptures. From there the word of God will start to penetrate your inner being and that will open your eyes of understanding and you will be able to enjoy all the promises of God. Remember that God loves you so much that he gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in him will not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16).
Prayer…LORD, give me understanding of this scripture and do not let the death of Jesus Christ be in vain over me, Amen.
