Colossians 3:1-3..If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
If you have given your life to Christ and people can not see the difference in you, then you need to go back to the drawing board and rededicate yourself because the Holy Spirit given to you at the time of conversion is in you to help you with the daily walk with the Lord. This new life cannot be hidden from people around you, it has to be seen if you are indeed genuinely converted. I have many experiences that confirmed that once you are born again, you are a new creature, and old things (old habit, or old nature) are truly passed away, and you now have a new nature. All the work of flesh that used to control you will not have power over you anymore, and the Holy Spirit will subdue them and you will now have dominion over your sin nature. One day, my son that had been living like a “prodigal son” whom we have preached to many times and corrected uncountable times but was not responsive to any of the corrections, called me to inform me that he had given his life to Christ. My first response was, “let’s wait and see” . This is because there is no way you can get to that point if you are not sick and tired of the way you have been living. Once you start to have the feeling of helplessness, you know you have gotten to your wits end and there is now need to come to the ONE that can rescue you, and that is our Savior, the Mighty ONE of Israel who says “Come to Me. and I will give you rest”. True to his testimony, his life turned around from then on, praise be to God. He was now interested in going to church, reading the Bible and asking questions about the way to grow in the LORD. Therefore the inward conversion is translated into outer appearance which includes new ability to do godly things that you could not do before.
The scripture of today says since we have given our life to Christ, we have passed from “death” to “life”. When we were without Christ, we were dead spiritually, we were in total darkness, but as soon as “we say Yes Lord to Jesus”, we receive the LIGHT of Jesus, we see clearly now, and have more understanding of who God is. So we have risen with Christ and have gotten a new nature which is the nature of God. The life of Jesus Christ was full of “whatsoever my father asked me to do, that’s what I do”. He lived a life that was totally devoted to His Father’s will. Even at the point of death, when He prayed for the cup to pass over Him, but immediately, He said “let your will be done”, and he subjected himself to the beating, the mocking, the crown of thorns on his head, the nailing of hands and feet on the cross, as a sacrifice for our sins to be forgiven. He gave up all the pleasures of this world, and focused on his assignment, and now He sits at the right hand of God. Therefore the word of God is pleading with us that we (believers) too, should set our affections on things above, where Jesus is seated, so that we can reign with Him in eternity. We should not allow the temporary pleasures of this world to deprive us of the eternal joy that is waiting for us at the end. Those who focus on things of this earth, will be mindful of the riches, the fame, the power, and all other things of this world. I John 2:16-17 says “For all that is in the world, the lusts of the flesh, and the lusts of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away; and the lust thereof, but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.
The will of God for us is to be like Christ, to follow Him, desire what He desires, hate what he hates, in short walk in His footsteps. Romans 12:2 also advises us “not to be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our mind, so that we can prove what is that good, and ,acceptable, and perfect will of God.” Our minds need to be renewed daily by the word of God that has the power to cleanse and keep our focus on things above. The Word of God will assure us of our eternal security in God because our lives are hid with Christ in God. What should be important to us is our eternal home with Christ, we should not allow the things we do here to prevent us from getting there. The word of God further admonishes us in Colossians 3: 8-15, “that we should put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of our mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him….Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, long-suffering. Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have quarrel against any,, even as Christ forgave you, so also do. And above all these things, put on charity (love) which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which you are called in one body, and be thankful,”
Brothers and sisters, let us heed these advice as they are the things we need to do to be able to set our affections on things above, so that when trumpet shall sound, we will be found worthy to be with Him. It shall be so for us in Jesus name, Amen..
Prayer…We know the second coming of our Lord and Savior is around the corner, Lord help us to set our affections on those things that will make us blameless and spotless and to be able to receive our crown in Jesus Name, Amen.
