Isaiah 49: 15-16…Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee, Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands, thy walls are continually before me.
The Bible rightly pointed out to us that man was created in God’s image, and in Genesis 1:27-28, it says, male and female created he them. And he blessed them, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea,and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth. Being created in God’s image, we were endowed with some of the features or characteristics of God. We can talk, move and also reason, and with all that he had empowered us with, we have seen so many innovations from man because we came from him. To multiply and replenish the earth, a woman was specially made to be the carrier of our offspring for 9 months in her womb, and after bringing the baby (delivery) to the earth, the woman would have to nurture this child first with breast milk which comes from her, until the baby is weaned from breast milk and then .start to feed on solid foods. A woman has been wired by God to be responsive to the needs of her child. Even if the woman was a deep-sleeper, she will wake up at the cry of her baby to meet the needs of this baby. The woman recognizes the voice of her baby and it does not matter what time of the day, the baby cries for attention, the woman (mother) is moved to nurse this baby. The first few weeks of a newborn baby, usually demands a lot of sleepless nights because it takes some time for the baby to adjust to night and day schedule. But with joy a woman goes through this nursing habit because of the love that binds the child and the mother together. The love that a mother has for her child is beyond description, she treasures this child for life. The child’s pain is the mother’s pain, and also the child’s happiness is the mother’s happiness.
If mother can treasure her child for life, we can then anticipate the same kind of treatment or better from our Creator. That is why the scripture says, “Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? The Lord asked this question because He knows that it is almost impossible for a woman to forget her sucking child because of the love of that child. But the LORD says there might be some exceptions when the woman is evil, and has been overpowered by her evil desires. The ratio of the women that shows the love and compassion of God towards their children by far outweighs the evil ones that could hurt or not care for their sucking babies. Therefore the LORD says , even if you happen to be a child of such woman, he will never forget you. He will always remember his covenant that he has made for you even before you were born.
.Why will he forget you when before the foundation of the world, he had you in mind for a particular purpose? The purpose of creating Eve was to complete Adam because the LORD knows that Adam cannot do it all alone, he needed a help-meet. The LORD told Jeremiah that before he formed him in his mother’s womb, he knew him, and before he came forth out of the womb, he sanctified him, and ordained him as a prophet unto the nations. At the age of 80 years, Moses received his own call. God ordered his footsteps to Pharaoh’s house at His own appointed time to be well educated in the palace of the king because of the assignment he had for him, which entailed leading a whole nation out of Egypt to the promised land. According to Isaiah 49:16, the LORD says”I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands, thy walls are continually before me”.This tells us that each created being (believer or nonbeliever) has his name engraved (tattoo) on the palms of God’s hands and can never be removed, his eyes look through these names continually (present continuous tense), and it cannot be forgotten. When Moses ran from Pharaoh to the desert because of the murder he committed (he killed the Egyptian when he was trying to rescue another Hebrew brother), the LORD did not raise up another “deliverer”. The Lord had Moses in mind for that job. When he had spent 40 years in the desert, the LORD drew his attention to a burning bush at the time God had planned to set his people free from slavery. Moses might have written himself off that assignment, even if he had the slightest idea that God wanted to use him for that purpose. After the call at 80 years, he spent another 40 years to lead the children of Israel from Egypt to their promised land (though he did not get there with them). and also God spoke to him face to face, and used him to write the 5 books of the Bible (Genesis to Deuteronomy), and also God wrote and handed the TEN COMMANDMENTS to him. Another personality in the Bible was David who was anointed as the king of Israel when he was 17 years old, but did not get to the throne until he was 30 years old. Was he forgotten by God? No!. Why did God keep king Saul alive when he had already taken the kingdom of Israel from his hand? Nobody knows!!! Sovereignty of God!!!
Whatever the situation we find ourselves in, let us remember that God cannot forget us. He is a compassionate and loving God. He is our Deliverer.. Let us continually hope in his salvation. Job 14:14 says “If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my CHANGE come” Proverbs 3:5-6 declares, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not unto your own understanding. In all thy ways, acknowledge him, and he shall direct your path.” Thus remember his love for you is beyond human comprehension. If you messed up along the way, he knew about it before you did it..Don’t give up on yourself because God will not give up on you. All you have to do is to go before the LORD and ask for mercy (forgiveness), he will forgive you and give you a fresh start. His LOVE is unconditional (agape) and he will lead you until his promises concerning you are fulfilled.
Prayer…LORD I bring before you my country and my family, remember your mercy and your compassion, have mercy on us and heal us.
