Proverbs 6:16-19….These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are abomination to Him; A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans. Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.
We visited this Scripture recently and two of the itemized things that God hates were discussed, and I want us to look at another one today before we move on to other areas of the word of God. The Word of God is rich and full of lessons that are timeless for any generation. Let us look at the heart that devises wicked plans and the way God deals with them. Children of God I appeal to you to please “do good” because God does not have pity on the wicked. God says it is an abomination to Him when a heart devises wicked things in his heart, and most of these plans lead to shedding of innocent blood (one of the seven things that God hates). God loves us so much that it grieves Him when people are being killed mercilessly. One of his commandments is “Thou shalt not kill”, thus seeing all the killings that occur every day makes Him angry with human kind. We pray that He will have mercy on our generation and help us stop the killings of innocent souls.
Let us go to the Scriptures and see a heart that devises wicked plans. The Book of Esther told us about a man named Haman, the Agagite, who was promoted in the palace of king Ahasuerus, above all the princes who were with him. All the king’s servants bowed down to him according to the king’s command but Mordecai would not bow or pay homage to him, because he was a Jew. When Haman saw that Mordecai did not bow or pay homage to him, Haman was filled with wrath. Instead of laying hand on Mordecai alone, he sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus. The Bible says he moved into motion this wicked idea of annihilating the Jews, then they cast lot (Pur) to determine the day and the month when they will carry out their wicked plan, and it fell on the 12th month which is the month of Adar. To make his wicked plan possible, he told the king that “there is a certain people scattered and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of your kingdom; their laws are different from all other people’s, and they do not keep the king’s laws. Therefore it is not fitting for the king to let them remain. If it pleases the king, let a decree be written that they may be destroyed, and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver into the hands of those who do the work, to bring it into the king’s treasuries.” (Esther 3). The king took the advise and gave him his signet ring and said to Haman, “the money and the people are given to you, to do with them as seems good to you” So a decree was written in the name of king Ahasuerus and sealed with the signet ring (seal of approval) and sent by couriers (as a matter of urgency) into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill. and to annihilate all the Jews, both young and old, little children, and women, in one day, on the thirteenth day of the 12th month, and to plunder their possessions. After this decree was proclaimed in Shushan the citadel, the Bible says, the king and Haman sat down to drink, but the city of Shusha was perplexed.” Wicked people celebrating wicked plan with a drink! I believe that many wicked people in today’s world also rejoice over their own wickedness. What kind of lifestyle is this?
How can God be happy with such people that plan to kill, to steal and to destroy? Jesus quoted in John 10:10 “that the thief cometh not but to kill, to steal and to destroy, …” Those who are wicked are messengers of Satan whose assignment is “to kill, to steal and to destroy” It is an abomination to God when your heart is full of evil and all your plan is to do what your master Satan sends you to do. The agenda of God is contrary to that of Satan and that is why John 10:10 compares his own mission in the same verse by saying, ” I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly”. God is good and Satan is evil, but I thank God that He knows how to pay them back, at times instantaneously but at times He waits for their cup to be full before He dispenses His judgment on them.
This story turned around and all the plan that Haman had for Mordecai and the entire Jews did not materialize but bounced back on Haman and his household. The gallow that he made to hang Mordecai was the same place he (Haman) was hanged. Even before then, while he came in to see the king to get permission to hang Mordecai early in the morning, God stepped into the scene and troubled the king in the midnight, and when he could not sleep, he asked for the Book of the Chronicles to be brought before him. In this book, those who have done good things for the king were recorded, and the reward that was given to them were also noted. But for Mordecai, it was written for him that he revealed the plot made by the king’s subjects to assassinate him, but no reward was awarded him. While the king was thinking about this, Haman entered the palace, and the king seized the opportunity to ask for advice from him, “What can be done to someone (name not mentioned) who did something good to the king?” Because he thought he was the one that the king wanted to honor, so he suggested a royal apparel to be placed on him, and be taken round the city proclaiming to every one that this person deserved honor from the king. Then the king who did not know why Haman came to the palace in the first place, nor the wickedness in his heart concerning Mordecai, told him to go and carry out ALL his Suggestions on Mordecai, because it was him that he wanted to honor. Can you imagine such humiliation? This is how all your enemies will be humiliated in Jesus Name, Amen. God hates the heart that plans evil things, and feet that are swift to run to evil.
Brothers and sisters, let us desist from planning evil concerning our neighbors or any one in general. We must not speak evil, backbite or slander anyone. God hates any thing that is evil. The LORD will give us the grace to turn from our wicked ways, and start to do good. Our God is good, and so we must be like Him, doing good wherever we go, and lifting up the name of the LORD. Let us commit our hearts, our thoughts and our actions unto God for Him to take full control. It shall be well with us in Jesus Name, Amen.
Prayer…LORD, we bring people who do not know you before you, please help them to know you, reveal yourself to them so that your Spirit can fill them up and turn them from their wicked ways in Jesus Name.
