Hebrew 4:12…For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The Bible reveals to us in 2 Timothy 3:16 that “All scripture is given by the inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect , thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” God breathed into the holy men of God to write the scripture for us. Genesis is the book of the beginnings, how would Moses write the story of thousands of generation before him if he was not inspired? Many stories that appeared in the old testament were mentioned in the new testament to validate the authenticity of the scripture. Apart from this, the different Rulers in the world from one generation to the other up to the present time are all in the scriptures. What will happen at the end of the age has also been revealed as we have it written in the Book of Revelation. Therefore the Bible is the TRUE WORD of God which were written for our learning “that through patience and comfort of the scriptures we might have hope.(Romans 15:4), that one day, we shall be in a place where there will not be any more suffering, and we will be with the Lord forever and ever. Friends, this is worth looking forward to because there is no peace in the world today. If there is hope for my future and your future, how much emphasis do we place on the word of God especially when we know that this Word of God is quick (alive), and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword.
The world and everything in it, was created by the Word of God, “Let there be, and it was so” Many miracles performed in the Bible were done using the Word of God as written both in the Old and in the New Testament. The LORD told Moses to speak to the Rock for water to come out for the children of Israel to drink during their journey through the wilderness. The Centurion whose servant was sick approached Jesus to come and heal him, as He was about to go to the centurion’s house, he told Jesus that all he needed to do was to speak the Word and his servant would be healed because he recognized Jesus was a man of authority. The Word of God is so powerful that the Bible refers to it as a sword. A sword is a weapon of war, and in the time of the Bible sword was the common weapon used to fight in the battle. When David killed Goliath with stone that entered his forehead, Goliath was armed with his sword, and David used Goliath’s sword to cut his head. While Goliath was heavily armed with all kinds of shield and weapon of war (sword), David was armed with the word of God which was his own sword. He told Goliath “that thou came to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield, but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel whom thou hast defied”. (1 Samuel 17: 45). The word of God is all that we need because it is more powerful than two edged sword, and useful to those who believe it. Peter used the word of God at the beautiful gate to heal a man crippled from birth. He told him, “Silver and gold have I none, but such as I have give I thee, In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.(Acts 3:6).
With these few examples, and the fact that these words were written for our learning so that we can have hope, we need to follow the advise of God to Joshua which says, ” This book of the Law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night…” If we meditate on the Words of God, we will start to witness the power that is in it. The power that can pull down all our strongholds is in the word of God. The power that can break any yoke of the enemy is in the word of God. The power that can release our blessings and breakthroughs to us is in the word of God. When you read the encounter of Jacob with the Angel and how he struggled with him until daybreak for his blessings to be released upon him, or how David rescued the sheep of his father from being killed by the lion, and the bear, then you will learn how to depend on the WORD of God for your own breakthroughs, blessings and deliverance. Your confidence in the Word of God will increase, and you will be able to know God and do exploits. Of what profit is a weapon that is not put into use. Remember the Word of God is Jesus himself. John 1:1 says, In the beginning was the WORD, and the WORD was with God and the WORD was God. Verse 14 says, And the WORD was made flesh and dwelt among us ( and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth. Therefore we should not be surprised that the Word created everything we can see and those we cannot see? We can recollect that the thoughts of the heart of men were read by Jesus. So when we meditate on the powerful Word of God, we are opening door for Jesus to make his abode in us and we will be able to develop the discernment of spirit which is the revelation of the thoughts and intents of heart.which will help us not to fall into the trap of the enemy. I pray that the LORD will give us the grace to know what we have and to be able to use it to the glory of God, Amen.
Prayer…Lord help me to put all my hope in the Word of God, increase the grace upon me to read and meditate upon it day and night, Amen.
