Proverbs 6:16-19…These six things doth the LORD hate, yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue,  A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

Yesterday we focused on the first thing that God hates, and that is “A proud look”. So today we want to examine the second one which is “a lying tongue” A tongue that does not speak the truth. The Bible says “Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” Any one that does not speak the truth is a liar and is of the devil. The scripture refers to the devil as the father of lies, because he sinneth from the beginning (John 8:44). Whenever we do not speak the truth, we are sinning, and we are identifying with the devil. This is the reason why lying is an abomination to God. Anyone that lies is manipulative or is covering up the truth or does not want the truth to be known and that is sin.

Let us examine the scripture to see an example of lying tongue. Genesis 37 describes how Jacob’s children plotted to kill Joseph their brother because they hated  him. When Joseph was sent to check on the welfare of their brothers as they were watching the flock, as soon as they saw Joseph at a long distance they plotted to kill him so that his dream would not come to pass. One of them (Reuben) suggested they should not kill him but put him in a nearby pit. They removed his coat of many colors, and put him in a pit. Another one (Judas) suggested they should sell him to the Ishmeelites who were going to Egypt. They consented to this suggestion, brought him out of the pit and sold him for twenty pieces of silver. In order to cover up the truth, they killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the coat in the blood, and brought it to their father, and said, “This have we found , know now whether it be thy son’s coat or no.” Of course, the father recognized the coat and said, “It is my son’s coat, an evil beast hath devoured him, Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces. And Jacob rent his clothes, and put on sackcloth upon his loins and mourned for his son many days. (Genesis 37:32-36): ” Can you imagine the type of state  the father was because of this lie, many times he might not be able to sleep regretting the day he sent Joseph to the field to check on his brothers?  The agony of thinking that Joseph was dead and that he would not see him again could be traumatizing and this went on for 17 years before the truth was revealed. He said in his words “I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning.” Thus his father wept for him and he refused to be comforted. God knew the truth and was not happy with all that Jacob went through when in actual fact the boy was alive and well. God hates lying tongue and he also made them pay for it at the end.

Why does God hate lies, because it brings unnecessary pain, discomfort, sadness, and distress. The Bible says liars can not enter the kingdom of God and everyone that acts as a false witness. There are many situations today that being not truthful had ended many businesses, or caused untimely death of many people. When you are used to speaking lies, you are living a life of deceit, and you open door for devil who is the father of lies to give you more tricks to work with. From there you start to go deep into sin, and if you don’t turn around, you will discover that the end result is Hell fire. Devil started in the garden of Eden by lying to Adam and Eve, and he has not changed the same manipulative spirit and that is why a man will cheat on his wife and find ways to cover it up, so also a wife will cheat on her husband and cover it up. A fiancee lied to his partner that they were going to have a good evening together not knowing that death trap has been set for her. The lady met her death in the process, All the terrible things that happen on earth started with lies. That is why the only way to avoid evil is to be truthful. Jesus says, I am the way, the truth, and the life. If you follow Jesus you will speak the truth, because Jesus is the Truth. God hates lying tongue, so train your tongue to speak the truth. Death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21), so train your tongue to speak the truth so that you can live. The LORD bless you as you train your tongue to speak the truth and nothing but the truth in Jesus Name AMEN.

Prayer….LORD help me to speak the truth so that devil could be put to shame in my life.
