Acts 4:33-35..And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus; and great grace was upon them all. Neither was there any among them that lacked for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them and brought the prices of the things that were sold. And laid them down at the apostles’ feet, and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.
The last words of Jesus Christ was recorded as the Great Commission, “Ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. (1:8). The book of Acts, was written by Luke, the physician, as the story of men and women who took the commission seriously and began to spread the news of the risen Savior to the most remote corners of the world. The beginning of the assembly called the Church is a gathering of believers in Christ and they were all reported to be of one heart and of one soul, and they all had things in common. The above verses say the apostles were endowed with GREAT POWER and GREAT GRACE and every one of them lacked nothing. Each of their gathering was focused on the resurrected Christ and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and Power, and they witnessed in such power that thousands were converted at a time, 3000 and another time 5000 believers were added to them. Despite the astronomical increase in number, their needs were met individually.
As they moved from one city to another the message stayed the same, their focus was on Master Jesus, His sacrificial love for humanity, and that He went to prepare their heavenly home for them, and He would return to take them to this beautiful and more secured home. Therefore their earthly possessions did not matter to them any more since they were temporary abode, so those who had more could sell their properties to take care of those that had less or none. What a wonderful foundation the apostles laid for us believers in Christ.
The churches of today have deviated so much from the apostles doctrine and the magnitude of the power that the apostles witnessed have been reduced to the barest minimum. We do not allow the Holy Spirit to do His work. We do not submit to His leading though many times we say the Lord says. whereas it is flesh that is speaking. We believe that we are in God’s service for a reward. It is true that God says in Hebrew 11:6 and I quote “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, , and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” People do not pay much emphasis on the part that says “without Faith” you cannot please God. The apostles followed Christ’s footstep going from one city to another putting up with whoever opened his door to them. They did not have eyes for material wealth, living in houses that are like king Solomon’s house. They were after their Master’s business, preaching and pointing the way to the eternal home which is more luxurious. Their mode of transportation was riding horses at the time of Jesus, because he requested for a colt tied down by his owner for a long time, to be brought to Him to ride to Jerusalem (Mark 11:1-11). None of them acquired this as a property to make their movement from city to city easier. They depended on boat (the common mode of transportation) to move them around. There was an episode of an unusual transportation that took Philip from Samaria to witness to the Eunuch from Ethiopia, a man of great authority under Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who had come to Jerusalem to worship and was returning and sitting in his chariot reading the book of prophet Isaiah. When Philip got to him, the man asked him to sit with him and after the encounter, he asked to be baptized, which Philip did. Acts 8:39-40 says “And when they were come up out of water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the Eunuch saw him no more, and he went on his way rejoicing. But Philip was found at Azotus, and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea.”
The leaders of today, in their different levels and titles, are known by their dressing, the vehicle they ride, or the jet they own. They are after donations or honorarium when they are invited to share the word of God, and some even demand a certain percentage of the money raised during their ministration. They have to do this to meet their expensive lifestyle. So their focus is on MONEY. On the contrary the call is first to deliver the message, and then depend on God to meet your needs. Their ungodly behavior opened door for Satan to pollute the Church of God and we do not experience the Power of God as we should. In many churches today, there are so many poor and needy people that their needs are not met by the Church. The Church has to take care of the needs of the leader in charge before they can remember those that are poor. The scripture of today says “none of them lacked anything”, because those who had shared with those who didn’t have, and this created unity among them, which allowed GREATER POWER and GREATER GRACE to be released upon the church.
We all know that Jesus is coming soon, what we need to do now is to amend our ways and do the work as the apostles laid it down. We are not leading by examples, and we have allowed things of this world that will perish to blindfold our eyes. We turned churches to businesses that should bring profit. The profit God is requiring from us is the number of converted souls that are heading to heaven to increase daily. Of what use is a church filled with thousands of people and only few are on the right path. Leaders are supposed to lead by Faith, preach Faith, convict them of sins, and rebuke them when they stray away. If we say the church belongs to Jesus, and the people belong to Jesus, why are we operating the church as if it belongs to us? Jesus paid the price with his blood on the cross of Calvary, what type of sacrifice are we making to keep the members focused on God. Are we not doing things that brings humiliation to His Name? You cannot lay your comfort down and do the work of evangelism. Jesus is coming soon and His reward is with Him. Revelation 22:12-14 says “And, behold, I come quickly, and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the First and the Last. Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.”
Prayer..Lord we need fresh baptism of Holy Ghost and Fire. Please come and revive your church so that we can better be prepared when you come.
