John 15:5..I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. (NKJV)
Before the actual manifestation of Jesus Christ on earth, the Spirit of God had been performing great work through many servants of God. We read how God appeared to Moses in the burning bush, empowered him, worked through Him to deliver the children of Israel from slavery. We were also informed of the work of God through Elijah, Elisha and many other prophets of God that God used in the land of Israel.
When Jesus finally came, the Bible says He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and He too began to do signs and wonders as he was led by the Holy Spirit. John 14:9-10 says “Jesus said to him, Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father, so how can you say, Show us the Father? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you, I do not speak on My own authority, but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. This shows the union between Father and Son, and this makes them ONE.
In preparing his disciples for the work of God to continue through them, he told them that the father would send the Holy Spirit to them and that they should wait for this promise before going out to bring more believers into the kingdom of God. Acts of Apostles recorded the mighty work of God performed through his apostles after receiving the Holy Spirit in Acts 2:1.
All that I have enumerated here is to show that God has been at work since the foundation of the world and as John 1:1-3 says (emphasis on verse 3), “All things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made”. This includes us because He is our Maker. Jesus now declares to us that He is the vine and we followers are branches, and as a branch of a tree cannot exist on its own talk less of bearing fruit, so also we can not function without Him, but we can do all things through Him because He is the ONE doing it, He is our STRENGTH.
We are meant to surrender ourselves to Him so that He can fill us up with Himself, which is the meaning of “abide in Me and I in you”. The prophets that were mentioned earlier yielded to whatever the Spirit told them to do. They were totally dependent on the Spirit of God, and they were able to fulfil their purpose (bearing many fruits). The good news of Jesus Christ came to us through the Apostles that allowed the Holy Spirit to move them from city to city converting souls into the kingdom of God. Mark 16:20 says “And they went forth and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following, Amen.”
The LORD has been working and He is still working through His people, will you allow Him to do His work through you? You might be the one, God is waiting to change the life of your husband, wife or children around. When you allow the light of Jesus to shine through you, those who do not know Christ will fall in love with him and give their life to Christ. So many examples of this exist today, If you watch “A Case for Christ” you will learn what submission to God’s will can do to convert a husband to Christ. Your own assignment might be in the workplace, how are you projecting your faith in Christ among them?
The end is drawing near, let us live our lives in total submission to the spirit of God in us to do his bidding. Overcome evil with good, show forgiveness, live a selfless life, and do not give room to the flesh (greediness, covetousness, lying and malice), as these will not allow you to be a true witness of Jesus.
Prayer.Lord let your light in me shine forth so that men will see your good works and glorify you in Jesus name, AMEN.
