Proverbs 1:7..The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge , but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Job 28:28..And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the LORD , that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
Psalm 111:10..The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, a good understanding have all they that do his commandments; his praise endureth for ever.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14..Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good or whether it be evil.

The scriptures above from different books of the Bible are saying the same thing, and the main theme in all of them is FEAR GOD. They all agreed that it is to our benefit when we fear God. The reason why we need to fear God is found in each of these verses. Solomon that God used to write Proverbs and Ecclesiastes must have been really mentored by both his father, David and his mother, Bathsheba. Both Dad and Mum had a lot to share with Solomon from their own terrible experiences which they did not want repeated in the life of Solomon. No wonder the first opportunity he had when the LORD told him to ask for whatever he wanted from God, he did not think twice but asked for wisdom above all other things. 1 kings 3:11 says “And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and has not asked for thyself long life, riches, nor the life of thine enemies, but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment. Behold, I have done according to thy words, lo, I have given thee a wise and understanding heart…..And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches and honor.(1 kings 3:12-13).

From experience ,Solomon wrote his own portion as directed by the Holy Spirit to warn the readers that our major duty on earth is to fear God. He says that the fear of the LORD will give us knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. I used to ask for these three “must haves” in my life, but these scriptures made it clear to me that I should ask for the fear of the LORD to take root in my heart and this will help me to depart from evil and also keep his commandments. because this ability comes from the LORD. Solomon messed up along the line despite the wisdom given to him because he did not allow the FEAR of God to be firmly rooted in his heart. King Saul also disobeyed God because the FEAR of God was not deeply rooted in him.

We can now fully understand why Joseph was able to fulfill his destiny in a foreign land. It was because he feared the LORD, and refused every attempt made by his master’s wife to lie with her, by saying, “how can I do this great wickedness and sin against God”? (Genesis 39:9). Daniel also lived a righteous life in a foreign land because he feared God. Daniel 1:8 says that “Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank, therefore he requested for pulse to eat and water to drink, and it was granted him”. The king found NO ONE like Daniel and his three friends because they were ten times better in all manners of wisdom and understanding, than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm (Daniel 1:19-20). God is the giver of all things and we should live a life that is pleasing unto him for us to enjoy all that he has for us. FEAR GOD and obey his commandments and it shall be well with you.

Prayer: LORD let your fear be in me, and let it be deeply rooted like that of Joseph and Daniel.
