Matthew 18:2-4..And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them. And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Our Lord Jesus Christ gave us a simple nugget that we need, to get us to that glorious place which is heaven. The nugget is “become converted to a little child”. What is in a little child that makes our Lord Jesus Christ liken our entering into the kingdom of heaven to? The answer is found in the word “humility”. A little child does depend absolutely on his parent for every of his daily need. A little child does not have preference in the choice of the house to live in or the type of car to take him from one place to another. This little child does not worry where the next meal is coming from because all he has to do is ask and it will be given. This little child does not know how to judge or condemn people, and therefore he befriends people easily with no hidden agenda. The heart of little children are generally pure and do not remember wrongs, thus it is easy for them to play with anyone that has just offended them.
Jesus tells us in this passage that we need to have a pure heart like little children and depend absolutely on the Maker for all our needs because He is the provider. If we worry less, then sin will not have dominion over us, and we will be free to enjoy all that God has for us. Then it will be easy for us to submit totally to His Lordship, and we will be able to do His bidding. Mary, the mother of Jesus, told the people at the wedding in Cana of Galilee when they ran out of wine, “Whatever He tells you to do, do it” Who else knows the son more than the mother? She knew that her Son was not an ordinary man, and she too submitted to his authority and had witnessed a lot of miracles. Doing what he says they should do, will solve the problem of that day and it did. Jesus is saying to us today that we should watch the little children, and become like them in thoughts (purity of mind and purpose), and in actions (living a life of LOVE and FORGIVENESS), and in contentment (no hassle for worldly acquisitions). Let us humble ourselves as little children and be obedient to Him in all things. Remember He is the vine and we are branches, and we can do nothing without Him.
Prayer..Lord create in me a new heart and renew the right spirit within me so that I can function like little children, and make heaven in Jesus name, Amen.
