Jeremiah 23:24..Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.
David the man after God’s heart wrote in one of the Psalms (139) that there is no hiding place for man. The psalm says , “O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off….Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence….?” If you read the entire psalm you will understand that there is no hidden place for man that the eyes of God do not cover. Paul also repeated this statement in Acts of Apostles (17:28) that it is in Him that we live, and move, and have our being.
God was speaking through Jeremiah in the scripture of today warning the people of Judah that every thing the prophets, the priests, and the congregation were doing were all before Him. Their sin had reached a climax and unless they turn from their wicked ways, they were heading to destruction. The same warning is sounding as of today in every nation, that those in position of authority who are supposed to understand that nothing is hidden before God, are the very ones that are doing things in secret until God exposes them.
When are we going to learn that sin carries consequences even if we ask for forgiveness? David’s sin with Bathsheba was done in his bedroom, but God sent Nathan the prophet to tell him about this sin in a very dramatic way that made David himself to declare judgment of death on the accused person. The LORD spoke through Nathan thus, ” Thou art the man…I anointed you king over Israel, delivered thee out of the hand of Saul..gave you your master’s house and wives.. and if that had been too little, I would have given you such and such things. Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight. Thou hast killed Uriah, the Hittite with the sword, and has taken his wife to be thy wife. Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house…behold, I will raise evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbor, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. For thou didst it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel and before the sun (2 Samuel 12:7-14).
Can you imagine that the neighbor God was referring to was Absalom, David’s son, he was the one that humiliated all the wives of David in the presence of all Israel. Whatever type of sin we indulge ourselves in have consequences. The whole world is in this serious mess today because of our sins. If we can acknowledge our sins like David did, God will look unto us with mercy. Hear what David said unto Nathan “I have sinned against the LORD”. And Nathan said unto David, the LORD also hath put away thy sin, and thou shall not die.
We need to ask for the LORD’s mercies over all of us that have professed to be Christ followers. We need to purge ourselves of our evil deeds and ask for the Holy Spirit to help us turn to God with all our hearts, soul and mind.
Prayer..Lord heal our land. Every evil we have committed is open before you. We know that we do not deserve anything good from you, but because you are a MERCIFUL God, we are asking that you forgive us all our sins and heal us.Thank you Jesus.
