Joshua 2:11..And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man because of you, for the LORD your God, He is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.
When Joshua took over from Moses, the next city to attack was Jericho. The spy that Joshua sent to Jericho were housed by Rahab the harlot whose house was close to the wall. Rahab had heard of all the miracles that God of Israel did and how they have wiped out many cities on the way, and now they knew they were the next to receive the same blow. While she hid these men, she explained to them that the entire city were terrified because of them. She also told them that the news they received convinced her that their God is the God of heaven and of the earth. There was an exchange of vow between them because she knew that the land had been given to them and so she asked that her life together with her family’s be spared. So it was, Joshua remembered and during the takeover of Jericho only the family of Rahab was spared, and they became part of the children of Israel.
The Bible tells us that Rahab was a prostitute. Even in this situation that she found herself, she had the understanding of who God was. She might have gotten to this point because she was in financial difficulty and she did not know which way to go. She might have tried to get out of this business but did not see any way out because she needed to survive. Rahab’s opening of her door to these two men demonstrated to us that she was fed up with this lifestyle and she wanted a change. She heard all that God of Israel did and she got convinced that their God is the only God. No one had previously experienced this type of wonders of Red sea parting for the children of Israel to pass through while the chariots and the Riders of Egypt perished in the same sea. They heard how the neighboring cities were wiped out by the God of Israel. Only Rahab prepared herself to think on all these happenings and attributed them to God of the universe, and decided to associate herself with this God. While all other citizens of Jericho perished, only the believing Rahab and her family were saved. The Bible tells us that she later became the mother of Boaz who was the father of Obed, the grandfather of David.
Today, I implore you to think of all that you have heard concerning what Jesus did to demonstrate the purpose of his coming to this earth. He performed many miracles and at the end he died so that we can be set free from shackles of sin and bondage. On the third day, he was raised from the dead and He is alive forever more. Romans 10:13 says, “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the LORD shall be saved.” If you can call upon the name of Jesus today, He will come and make His abode in you and your life will be transformed. There is no situation He cannot change. He saved Rahab from perishing and promoted her into the lineage of the great king David, He will do the same for you, Amen.
Prayer..If you desire to give your life to Jesus today, please say this simple prayer, Lord Jesus come into my life, forgive me all my sins and help me to live for you. From now on, be the Lord of my life. Thank you Jesus. If you said this prayer, you are born again into the kingdom of God, and continue to read the Bible, and your life will not remain the same again.
