I Chronicles 4:9-10..Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain”. And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territry, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” so God granted him what he requested.
I love the story of this man called Jabez. What God did for him was worth mentioning in the book of chronicles which did not inform us who Jabez was before verse 9 and his name was not mentioned again after verse 10. As important as it was to the person that God used to write the chronicles, that he had to insert his story within two verses of chapter 4 that contained a lot of family tree, so also it is a well written short story for us to learn from today. It is one of the wonders of our God who is able to turn any situation around for good, and surely your own story will be rewritten for good in Jesus name. AMEN.
The story of Jabez was opened to us with the new level that God moved him to (verse 9). This level was higher than where he was before and even better and more honorable than where his brothers were. This man out of no fault of his own received a curse from his mother who named him Jabez which means sorrow, because his birth caused her pain. This man carried this curse until his eyes were opened to the DELIVERER, God of Israel, who could bring solution to his problems. Compared to his brothers, he must have been in a pathetic situation, maybe he could not make ends meet, maybe he had a lot of debt that he could not pay, or maybe his own immediate family (wife and children) were going through so much struggle that maintaining a home was a difficult task. No man receives respect when he is not able to feed his family.
Jabez’s problems came to an end the day he realized that his problem came from the curse upon his life, and this curse had to be broken. The God of Israel was the only one who could wipe out any curse upon man’s life and then restore all the lost glory. Verse 10 says he cried (called) unto the God of Israel and asked for blessing and enlargement of territory, he asked for protection from all evil, and that he would not cause pain any more. The Bible tells us that God granted him his request and his situation turned around and he was now more blessed than his brethren that were enjoying God’s blessings before, and became more honorable than them.
What a Mighty God we serve! The story of Jabez is an eye opener to not resign ourselves to fate when we find ourselves in awkward situation that defies solution. Let us bring such problem to God who remains the same, from eternity to eternity. He has records of miracles upon miracles which He has performed since He made himself known to mankind, and He will not fail you because He never fails. Do not loose hope or give up thinking that your situation cannot be reversed. Jeremiah 32:27 says “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh, Is there anything too hard for Me?”. The answer is No. The LORD will answer all your requests in Jesus name, AMEN.
Prayer..LORD break every yoke that has been placed upon my life
and let me enjoy your goodness, mercy and abundant blessings in the land of the living in Jesus Name, AMEN.
