Psalm 23:1-3
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.He maketh me to lie down in green pastures, he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul, he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his names’s sake.

The animal that is most gentle and easy to lead is the sheep. The sheep depends absolutely on the shepherd for all needs. Morning by morning the sheep looks unto the shepherd for a place of rest and ‘comfort. David was entrusted with the care of his father’s sheep and from his account he did everything that needed to be done to prevent lion and bear from killing them, even at the risk of loosing his life. Apart from taking care of their food and water, he protected them from every danger that they could have been exposed to in the search of food and water.

David understood that being a shepherd out there in the jungle was not a simple matter. If it had not been the LORD, the lamb would have been eaten by lion and the bear. Therefore it is not surprising that he wrote Psalm 23 which addresses the LORD as the shepherd who met all his own needs while he was taking care of the sheep. This is the psalm most people recite and memorize by heart (including me) and yet many of us are still burdened with daily needs to the point that we do not remember to cast our burden on Jesus, the chief and good shepherd.

The reason why we have so many problems today is because we are no more sheep rather we are the generation that believe that we have to do it our way. We do not allow Jesus to lead us into his own green pasture but we prefer to look for our own pasture ourselves. Our standard is now based on what other people have done, and whether it is convenient or not, we have to do the same. We measure our worth with earthly values, and in the process we don’t have REST for our souls. We run from pillar to post to meet our own desires. In the process we do not have time to LIE DOWN TO REST even in our own green pastures. There is NO TIME to sit still and hear the voice of God. How will he lead us in the paths of righteousness when we have no ROOM for him, because we have overcrowded our hearts with many worldly things?

Brothers and sisters, this is the time to be DEPENDENT on Jesus daily like the sheep and TRUST that all our needs shall be met. One thing we human beings lack these days is the ability to WAIT for Him. He is the ONE that holds our tomorrow, why are we running ahead of Him. Why are we looking for money, fame and power at all costs? Let us learn from the life of Elijah who was fed by Ravens, and then by the widow woman of Zarephath. If God did this for Elijah, He will do it for us.

Prayer: Lord give me the grace to depend on you for ALL MY NEEDS. Give me wisdom to wait on you and not look unto friends for help, but unto you because you are a very present help in trouble.
