Matthew 5:6..Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness; for they shall be filled.
The physical body demands food for its growth. When we nurse babies that love food, we are happy to see their growth because they look healthy, active and happy. Just like our physical body is nourished by food, so also our spiritual body is nourished by food of the spirit. 1 Peter 2:2 says as newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby. The word of God is the food of the spirit. There are levels of spiritual growth, and your appetite for this food determines what level you will get to. If you desire to be filled by this food, the scripture of today says you need to create an appetite for it.
I would liken this spiritual desire to my own physical desire towards education. Right from my youthful days I had the desire to be educated beyond High school. Despite the fact that I entered into marriage few years after my high school, I still continued to nurture this desire until it became a reality. Having a family and raising children did not debar me from achieving my desires. I pursued this desire until I had my fill. When you hunger and thirst for something, you will go after it with every fiber of your being, until you are satisfied.
God demanded that we seek first the kingdom of God and its righteousness (Matthew 6:33) and this should be our priority in order to please Him. When I make this my desire, I will start to find ways of achieving this righteousness with all my heart, mind and soul. That is to say that, I will not allow things of the world to stand in my way or stop me from pursuing it. Since I cannot attain this by my own power, I have to depend on the Holy Spirit to be my teacher. Holy Spirit knows the mind of the Father and therefore He is the rightful teacher to teach me until I have my fill. The scripture says when I have this desire there are blessings attached to it, both spiritual and physical blessings as in Matthew 6:33. To pursue after righteousness, I must find time to befriend my Bible, and then ask the Teacher (the Holy Spirit) to come into me to help me each day. As soon as He sees your seriousness in wanting to grow, He starts to reveal many things to you which will guide you into all truth, then the righteousness of Christ will start rubbing on you. Your life will be transformed and ungodly living will be a thing of the past. May the Lord fill us up as we desire after His righteousness, AMEN.
Prayer: LORD increase my desire to pursue after righteousness and help me to be filled with all the blessings in Jesus Name, AMEN.
