Psalm 133:1..Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
From the book of Genesis which is the book of the beginnings we can see that unity played a crucial role in creation. We read in Genesis 1 that the earth was without form, and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep. Then the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters and God spoke into existence the light, followed by all that he created. Then in verse 26, God said let us make man in our image, after our likeness, and let them have dominion over all that have been created before man.
To confirm that unity was a major factor in the plan of God, Jesus revealed this in his prayer recorded in John 17:11 “And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee, Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are”. Because of the importance of unity and its effect on the salvation of human race, Jesus prayed that the Father would “KEEP THEM THROUGH THINE NAME SO THAT THEY CAN BE ONE”. That is to say that all that Jesus came to do on earth were accomplished because of their unity, and so for this work to continue, He prays that Father should let these ones whom He has selected and those that are going to believe in Him through their word be kept together as one. He continues.. “and as you Father art in me, and I in you, let them be one in us, that the world may believe that You have sent me.”
The glory of God that was revealed in Jesus Christ through his three and half years of ministry could have been multiplied exponentially through the believers if they have been able to dwell in unity. The kingdom of darkness would not have thrived the way it is now, because God would have performed greater work through us that would have rendered devil powerless.
We can see that the plan of God to reconcile the human race to Himself was a beautiful plan of salvation that started from our Lord Jesus Christ and continue through His disciples and all believers so that through unity more and more souls would believe that Jesus Christ was sent for this purpose.
Brothers and sisters, let us dwell in unity, because the blessings of our oneness will be like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard, that went down to the skirts of his garments (Psalm 133:2). The blessings will be on all of us and it will go from generation to generation of those that believe in Him.
Prayer: Let us pray that the LORD will keep us as one and make us to inherit the blessings of eternal life with Him in Jesus Name, Amen.
