Colossians 3:1-3 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
Paul explains to us in the Book of Romans that since we have given our lives to Christ (born again), we are baptized into his death. So we are buried with him by baptism , and just as he is raised from the dead, we too are raised to new life.(Romans 6: 1-4). Our life should have a different meaning from now on. Things that our old self treasured should be a thing of the past. We must not allow material things to be our focus. If our minds are focused on how to get wealth, become famous, enjoy life at the expense of serving God, then we are set for destruction. The children of Eli occupied themselves with the things of this world by dishonoring the sacrifices and offerings that belong to God, and God took their lives on the same day in the battle against the Philistines. The covenant that God made with their father’s family was revoked.
Our priority must be on things above, that is doing things that are pleasing unto God. After all, we came to this world with nothing, and we will go back with nothing. We have one life to live here on the earth, and after, it is life eternal in the kingdom of God (heaven). That is what we should seek after so that we will not miss this eternity with Christ. Let us remind ourselves each day that we are already dead with Christ and the life we now live is a live for Him and Him alone and not for ourselves.Paul says in Galatians 2:20, I am crucified with Christ nevertheless I live yet not I, but Christ liveth in me, and the life I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me.
Let us continue to ask for the strength of God which will enable us to do all things unto his pleasing. Let us also be thankful to God for what we have and more will be given to us as we set our minds on things above. Hannah prayed for a son which she gave back to God. What do you have to give back to God? God bless you as you ponder on these words in Jesus Name. AMEN.
